Yesterday – Friday 1st of July – we visited for the first time the Tuska Open Air Festival. And let me tell you, it is awesome. Atmosphere, music and people are great.
As we are living only a few minutes walk away we left our home yesterday around 2pm – at this time the 1st band CATTLE DECAPITATION started to play already. When we arrived at the festival area they were still playing more than half an hour.
One thing that we observed very early was all the finish people waiting outside of the area to drink beer. Well, we know that alcohol is much more expensive than in Germany and with around 8,50 (including deposit) for a 0,5l can it became obvious to not get drunk on the in-field. But that’s not all. We wondered about the separated drinking areas within the festival grounds. There were some security gates you had to pass to reach the bars. At one time we were even asked to show our id card. So we just took it as a compliment that we are looking younger than we are.
On this day we listened to CATTLE DECAPITATION, DELAIN, SWALLOW THE SUN, CAIN’S OFFERING, LORDI (yeah I know – they weren’t worth it), KVELERTAK, TESTAMENT, BEHEMOTH and AVANTASIA.
In the late afternoon we met with Petteri – a lovely colleague of mine working here in our Helsinki office. He introduced us to some of his friends who just invited us to join their pre-partying today. They were really nice and we had some fun with them. Looking forward to see them again the other two days.
The weather was great. During the day we tried to switch between sun and shadow every now and then because in the sun it got very hot over time. So having a cold place in the shadow was ideal. What we were surprised about was the food. Yes, it was expensive, but one had a lot possibilities to eat: Burger, Falafel, Sushi, Kebab, BBQ, Mexican and some Finish food.
To drink there was mostly beer, some cider and Valhalla spirit. Ah, and wine.
In the evening we listened the other musicians.
As already mention in a previous post, the night is not really dark here at the moment. It was really funny to listen to AVANTASIA (even though they’re not the music we prefer) until midnight with having a kind of sunset setting.
Some minutes after midnight we started our way back to our home. Again, just a few minutes later we arrived tired but excited about the first day at Tuska at home. It was an awesome day and we’re looking forward to the others.
Hell yeah, stay tuned!
